JUSTICE THROUGH THE SCRIPTURES

God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him (1 John 4:16).  And through His infinite love, God created man in his own image (Genesis 1:27) to share in this love.

Justice transcends from God’s love.  From the Lord, man gets justice (Proverbs 29:26).  And if man is to imitate the love of God, then man must abide in justice.  Justice is conformity to truth.  God is truth.  Justice is righteousness.  Righteousness and justice are the foundation of His throne (Psalms 97:2).

How is a just man supposed to act?  If you pursue justice, you will attain it and wear it as a glorious robe (Sirach 27:8).  Blessed are they who observe justice, who do righteousness at all times! (Psalms 106:3).  Execute justice in the morning, and deliver from the hand of the oppressor him who has been robbed (Jeremiah 21:11-12).  You shall not pervert justice; you shall not take a bribe, for a bribe blinds the eyes of the wise and subverts the cause of the righteous.  Justice, and

only justice, you shall follow (Deuteronomy 16:19-20).  Give justice to the weak.  Rescue the weak and the needy; deliver them from the hand of the wicked (Psalms 82:3-4).  Hate evil, and love good, and establish justice in the gate (Amos 5:14-15).  Wash yourselves; make yourselves clean; remove the evil of your doings from before my eyes; cease to do evil, learn to do good; seek justice (Isaiah 1:16-17).

The Lord will protect and reward the just man.  The Lord will protect us in our ways.  When justice is done, it is a joy to the righteous, but dismay to evildoers (Proverbs 21:15).  Great will be our rewards, for the Lord loves justice (Isaiah 61:8).  Justice, and only justice, you shall follow, that you may live and inherit the land which the LORD your God gives you (Deuteronomy 16:19-20).  Happy is he whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the LORD his God, who made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them; who keeps faith for ever; who executes justice for the oppressed; who gives food to the hungry (Psalms 146:5-7).  For the LORD loves justice; he will not forsake his saints. The righteous shall be preserved forever, but the children of the wicked shall be cut off (Psalms 37:28).

Jesus will establish justice on the earth.  Thus says the LORD: "Keep justice, and do righteousness, for soon my salvation will come, and my deliverance be revealed.  Blessed is the man who does this, and the son of man who holds it fast, who keeps the Sabbath, not profaning it, and keeps his hand from doing any evil (Isaiah 56:1-2).  Jesus is our salvation.  He will deliver us from the unrighteous.  “I myself will be the shepherd of my sheep, and I will make them lie down”, says the Lord GOD.  I will seek the lost, and I will bring back the strayed, and I will bind up the crippled, and I will strengthen the weak, and the fat and the strong I will watch over; I will feed them in justice (Ezekiel 34:15-16).  Jesus is the good shepherd.  He will feed us in justice.  In those days and at that time I will cause a righteous Branch to spring forth for David; and he shall execute justice and righteousness in the land (Jeremiah 33:15).  Jesus is the “Branch” from David who executes justice.

Behold my servant, whom I uphold, my chosen, in whom my soul delights; I have put my Spirit upon him, he will bring forth justice to the nations.  He will not cry or lift up his voice, or make it heard in the street; a bruised reed he will not break, and a dimly burning wick he will not quench; he will faithfully bring forth justice.  He will not fail or be discouraged till he has established justice in the earth; and the coastlands wait for his law (Isaiah 42:1-4).  Jesus will bring forth justice to the nations.  Jesus is the “Chosen One” of the Lord and He will proclaim and bring justice to victory.
